Marcelo de Oliveira Müller is admitted to the Bar Association OAB/RJ since 1994 and his extensive practice in Intellectual Property law exceeds 29 years. Marcelo has a vast expertise in the fields of Trademark Law, Trade Dress, Domain Name and Unfair Competition issues, among Other IP areas, such as internet-related disputes as well as copyrights.
With a greater focus on prosecution as well as on the intelligence behind handling I.P. portfolios, both domestic and international ones, for Brazilian and Multinational firms, Marcelo is highly skilled in counseling clients when it comes to enforcing, protecting and obtaining I.P. rights, and devising the best strategies for maintenance of I.P. assets and portfolios tailored to each client’s needs.
Marcelo has ample expertise in Technology Transfer Agreements, Contracts, in dealing with extrajudicial matters, and in settlement negotiations, being highly skilled in preparing Cease and Desist Letters and Legal Opinions involving trademarks and Other I.P. rights.
Marcelo earned his Law degree from the University of the Estate of Rio de Janeiro – UERJ – in 1993, and obtained his Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Intellectual Property and Technology Law in 2004, from the J. Thomas McCarthy Institute for Intellectual Property and Technology Law, at the University of San Francisco School of Law.
Marcelo is also a seasoned lecturer on both the International Trademark Association – INTA and the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association – ABPI’s meetings, being a long standing member of INTA, where it has been in committees for over twenty five consecutive Years, currently assigned to the Policy Subcommittee for INTA’s Brands and Sustainability Committee. He is also a member of the Madrid Protocol study group of the Brazilian Association of Industrial Property Agents – ABAPI and is the Intellectual Property Director of the Instituto Brasileiro dos Executivos de Finanças – IBEF.
