Experience

Pedro Moreira is a pharmacist registered with the Regional Council of Pharmacy of Rio de Janeiro (CRF-RJ) and a licensed Industrial Property Agent before the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office. With more than 26 years of experience in Intellectual Property (IP), Pedro focuses his practice in patents, plant varieties and industrial designs, combining scientific and technical expertise with a strategic approach for the protection and management of technological assets.

Pedro advises local and foreign companies, as well as law firms, on the protection, coordination and strengthening of IP portfolios, and on the assessment and mitigation of freedom-to-operate (FTO) risks. His experience includes developing protection strategies, drafting patent applications, conducting technical analyses and handling the prosecution before the Brazilian PTO, the Brazilian Plant Variety Protection Office and IP Authorities in other jurisdictions. He also prepares technical and legal analyses relating to patentability, patent validity and the scope of patent protection, as well as FTO analyses, both in connection with specific matters and in the context of due diligence and M&A transactions.

Throughout his career, Pedro has developed particularly significant experience in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, chemical and agricultural sectors, including plant variety protection, as well as in the fields of metallurgy and materials. His scientific background and practical experience enable him to understand complex technologies and translate them into protection strategies that are legally sound, technically substantiated and aligned with clients’ business objectives.

Pedro also has extensive experience in international IP matters, including managing communications and strategies with foreign associates. Of particular note is his experience coordinating patent protection throughout Latin America, United States, Europe and Japan, and in advising Japanese companies, integrating technical, legal, and cross-cultural considerations into the management of IP portfolios in Brazil and worldwide.
